Solomango Travel Feature : Looking down on the Neighbours

The dark side of Rio de Janeiro

No photographer visits Brazil without recording their impressions of the 2016 Olympic City of Rio de Janeiro, but Giordano Cipriani didn’t just focus on Ipanema and carnival; he also turned his eye to the favelas of Cantagalo-Pavão-Pavãozinho and Rocinha, giving us the briefest glimpse into organic neighbourhoods that have something of a reputation as impoverished and dangerously unwelcoming no-go areas. He captured ordinary people making their living; at work, at play, and in celebration, just going about their daily lives.
