New Images > A Blast from the Past: Pompeii

Revisiting the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii

Preserved since 79 AD, when an eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum with a hot rain of ash and lapilli.
We return to the past with these evocative images from Massimo Ripani. You almost feel the ghosts between the colorful frescoes and miraculously preserved buildings.
In 1997, the Archaeological Areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata were included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, an important recognition that underlines the cultural importance of this archaeological site.
Pompeii is a precious treasure that offers us a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in the past and better understand the life of ancient Rome.
